Modern Dancers

Contemporary

Contemporary is a form of dance based on free movement. It blends elements from many other styles including jazz, ballet, modern and lyrical. It has less of a clear structure than other genres, allowing for choreography to be incredibly dynamic and unique.

In Intermediate Contemporary, we will be building comfort in flow work, isolations and extension through our limbs. We will begin understanding dynamics ("liquid" movement, sharp movements and all the in betweens). The idea of dancing without restriction will be heavily emphasized.

In Senior Contemporary, we will experiment with more abstract movement and how to understand the root of your movements. Expression and individuality will be explored a lot in this class.

Pre-Requisite: Ballet, Stretch/Progression
